I am currently working in Yangon, Myanmar, as the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) Gender and Coordination Officer.
From September 2016 to September 2017 I was a fellow of the Mercator Fellowship on International Affairs focusing on feminist foreign policy; as a fellow I worked for UNDP on 'women, peace and security' including the gender perspective of preventing violent extremism in NYC and Yangon, Myanmar. Before joining UNDP I worked for the local Colombian NGO 'Sisma Mujer' on the participation of women in the current Colombian peace process in Bogotá.
Prior to that I was the research advisor on international arms trade, and international security and female empowerment for the three times Nobel Peace Prize Nominee and founder of numerous NGOs, Dr. Scilla Elworthy.
I possess extensive campaigning and advocacy experience. Spurred on by a refusal to tolerate injustice, I have initiated and co-founded three campaigns. This includes advising UN Women National Committee Germany e.V. on the campaign to change the German law on sexualised violence, the 'No Means No' campaign. This put German law in line with the Istanbul Convention. I regularly give interviews on social justice and gender equality and speak on panels, for example at the European Parliament and the Global Media Forum. As the first and only member of my extended family to go to university, educational inequality is another concern that I deeply care and passionately write about. This has led me to founding the initiative "Initiative: Augenhöhe" tackling educational inequality through activism and mentorship in September 2017.
I am an alumna of both University College London (distinction) and the Oxford Department of International Development at the University of Oxford, where I read MSc Global Governance and Diplomacy. My work focused on diplomacy, human rights, and gender and development, and included fieldwork in Ghana.
I aspire to help building a society characterised by equality and diversity. I am therefore involved in various projects - check them out: I am an ambassador of #FreeInterrail, a campaign that demands an EU programme granting free access to mobility for all EU youth. I initiated a project to foster diversity in the Studentenforum im Tönissteiner Kreis e.V., and I am an Emerging Catalyst with Rhize - a people-powered movements facilitator. I am also part of the working group on gender at the United Nations Assocation of Germany.
